You are invited to join a new NAP Unit that meets in an Internet Chat Room.

* WHAT:  Organizational Meeting for eNAP (Electronic Unit of NAP)

* WHEN:  Monday, April 27, 2009, 6:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (that’s 9pm east coast time)

* WHERE:  Chat Room at http://www.mibbit.com/?server=irc.slashnet.org&channel=%23enap

* COST:  No money; just time

* RSVP:  Let me know your meeting and membership plans at pmcclintock /a/t/ gmail /dot/ com or cell phone 206-696-0689

This unit is being formed to meet the special needs and interests of two different groups:

(a) those NAP members who can't attend any existing unit's in-person meetings but would like the educational benefits of being a part of a unit, and

(b) those NAP members who want to learn first-hand how electronic synchronous (chat room) meetings work.

I have created a set of 4 related web sites (all free) for the new unit:

* The Home Site - open to the public, with our schedule and rules;

* The Members-Only Site - open to members-only of course, with minutes etc.;

* The Voting Site - for votes (exposed and secret) not done in open chat;

* The Chat Room - for the meeting itself.

Check them out:

* The Home Site - http://sites.google.com/site/enapunit/Home

* The Members-Only Site - http://sites.google.com/site/enapmembers/

* The Voting Site - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eNAPmembers/polls

* The Chat Room - http://www.mibbit.com/?server=irc.slashnet.org&channel=%23enap

Actually, you won't be able to see the Members-Only or Voting sites until you become a member!

But you can check out the

* draft Bylaws - http://sites.google.com/site/enapunit/enap-bylaws

* draft Special Rules of Order - http://sites.google.com/site/enapunit/enap-special-rules-of-order

* draft Standing Rules - http://sites.google.com/site/enapunit/enap-standing-rules

* draft Agenda for April 27 with draft motions and provisos - http://sites.google.com/site/enapunit/agenda

Forgive me for doing so much of the preliminary work.  I don’t mean to rob anyone of working through these documents.  But I just wanted to get us started as soon as possible, and these documents hopefully will do that.  They can of course be tweaked or revised over time as needed.

Okay, I know this is rushing a bit.  Not much notice.  But I'd prefer that the meetings to be on a Monday evening, and the next 3 Monday evenings are booked on my schedule.  So if you'd like to join the unit but can't make it to April 27 meeting, suggest an alternate day of the week for an evening meeting sometime in the next 2 weeks that you could make it to.  Depending on the response, I may reschedule it.

RSVP -- Please let me know:

(a) Would you like to try out such a unit, by joining at one of its first two meetings?

(b) Will you plan on attending the first meeting, assuming it is Monday, April 27, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. west coast time?  Expect 1 to 1.5 hours.

(c) Would you consider being President? VP? Secretary? Treasurer (a do-nothing job since I don't expect us to enact any dues!)?

(d) Would you consider being a Site Editor?

(e) Would you consider being chairman or a member of the Education or Membership committee?

(f) Do you have any suggestions for changes to the draft bylaws, special rules of order, standing rules, agenda, provisos, or website?

Specifically, if you wish to join the unit, is meeting 2nd Monday of even-numbered months at 6pm west coast time okay with you?  If not, when else?

Thanks for your consideration and interest.

Sincerely,

Paul McClintock, PRP

(Note: my email address in the NAP online directory is different, but I'm in the midst of changing from DSL to FIOS internet service, and I may have some interruption in service with that email address during the next 2 weeks.  Thus, for now, please use the gmail address above.  I'll try to confirm receipt of any eNAP related emails, regardless of where they are sent, so if you don't get a confirmation, be sure to email it again but to the gmail address.  Thanks!)

(Note 2: I'm sending this to MALs in Washington state, to attendees of the WSAP annual meeting on 4/18 where I first announced my intention of starting this unit, and to selected others.  Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think might want to join as a regular or provisional member. Thanks!)
